Creative Cooking with Sheri Castle
The Spectator

I wrote a monthly column in The Spectator from December 2000 through January 2002.  Unfortunately, I recently got word that the Spectator's new editor has decided to put these columns on hold:

The new editor has decided to hold off on your column for awhile. He wants to see what kind of feedback we'll get and then we'll go from there. Since we have limited space in Food & Drink, he wants to make sure we're giving new restaurants proper coverage.

At any rate, here's a list of all the columns I've written:

January 2002:  Winter Fare, hearty, wholesome comfort food to get you through any winter storms that might come your way.  Featuring Sheri's Cheese Grits and White Chili.

December 2001: Roast Beast: You're on your own for the Who Hash, but this column tells you how to create a perfect pot roast.

November 2001: Do the Mashed Potato: the five principles of making perfect mashed potatoes, along with a couple of great recipes.

October 2001:  How You Like Them Apples? - Creative ways to use fall's favorite fruit.

September 2001:  Soups for the Season, comfort foods for troubled times.

September 2001:  Figs from Paradise, with five recipes featuring figs, including Caramelized Figs with Creme Fraiche and Fresh Figs with St. Andre and Westphalian Ham.

August 2001: Mr. Faulkner's Butter Beans, featuring Low Country Summer Succotash and Rustic Blackberry Tarts.

July 2001: A Peach of a Deal, a trio of recipes featuring peaches. Peach Cobbler, Fresh Peach Salsa, and Peppered Peach and Vidalia Salad are on the menu.

June 2001: A Moveable Feast:  A perfect picnic with Pan Bagna and Fudgy, Chewy, Cakey Brownies.

May 2001:  Spring Harvest: Kilt lettuce and Strawberry Preserves with Balsamic Vinegar and Black Pepper.

April 2001:  Easter Feast: Perfectly baked ham, followed by lemon chess pie with blackberry compote.

March 2001:  The next frontier - The produce department, featuring recipes for purple potatoes, blood oranges, and rhubarb.

February 2001: Stale bread = Good eats, featuring bread pudding with caramel-bourbon sauce and Aquacotta.

February 2001: Romantic desserts.  This isn't a full column, it's a small feature on five quick desserts you can make for your Valentine.

January 2001:  Tuscan tradition, featuring braised white beans over garlicky greens and Bruschette.

December 2000: Holiday Tradition, featuring Beef Tenderloins with Balsamic Sauce.
